Africa-BB-Maps

The ITU Africa-BB-Maps project (2025-2028), funded by the European Union, helps 11 Sub-Saharan national regulatory authorities establish harmonised broadband mapping systems: Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

National broadband mapping systems are enterprise-level GIS platforms, owned and run by each regulator, that bring together data on broadband networks, infrastructure and service coverage in one place. They show where connectivity is available and where it is missing, so that policies and investment can be targeted where they are most needed.

Part of the Africa-Europe Digital Regulators Partnership and the EU Global Gateway strategy, the project transfers European regulatory and technical expertise to Africa, with national ownership and long-term sustainability.
